Today is January 16th, we got here at 2:27pm and we are still waiting on all of our food. thing is, those reviews were 3 months ago.
I chalked the bad reviews about the wait up to a bad day. Despite reading all the news reports of shut downs and the waits people reported, I'm here. Today, my last day in town on a quick trip, I made my regular stop to Gladys. If you are a waiter please take care of your clients so that your clients can take care of you. I personally value my US DOLLAR because it's hard earned money that I spend valuably. Your waiter decided to tell me on my way out "have a good day, I was going to discount your ticket but you talk too much" never once did I give her negative beside reiterating my order as ordered. I insisted on paying $13.50 cash on my order specifically for this issue. Asked for hot syrup, she said one second and returned to say the syrup will be here in 5mins. Our food arrived and my wings were fresh but the waffle was cold. I went to look for to her to have my Sprite made, she came back, took my to go cup to the back and returned with Sprite but this time she rinsed the coke out of the cup and put Sprite inside. She returned with my drink in a to go cup with Coke inside. She said "I can put your Sprite in a glass" I said, no I'd like my Sprite in a to go cup. I order chicken wings, waffle and Sprite in a to go cup. Sat me and instantly said "the quickest thing that's fresh to get is Midnight Train, what we're famous for" so I agreed.
1 hour passed and she called my name to be seated. (At this point I'm comfortable because I believed my food would be fresh so I don't care about the wait time. Few minutes later a waiter in all black with blonde faux locs greeted us to say "we cook everything here fresh, we just opened at 11am, it'll be a 45min wait because everything is cooked fresh. Others in line had to tell us to write our name on a sheet of paper to be on the waiting list. Normally I'd type this out of anger but on my über ride to the airport I had time to calm down and register this entire event. Very disappointing knowing I've had far better in AZ. I would love to ask Gladys or her brother when the last time either one of them was in there or even better I would challenge them to place a to go order, have someone go get it so the staff doesn't know its them, then try it and see if they are willing to still put their name on it. The side of rice and gravy is literally a very very small side of uncle bens rice and beige gravy.Īfter asking did Gladys Knight still own the restaurant we were told well her name is still on it, but her brother now runs it. The chicken wings were hot however very non-seasoned. ummm we waited 35 min for our meal to have cold waffles? The waffle itself was no better taste or quality than Waffle House waffles. The food - everyone on the table ordered the Midnight Train - Every single order came out with cold waffles. Would have been nice to know when we ordered. Never received the coffee we ordered and after asking several times we were told the coffee delivery never arrived. Appetizer arrived before the Hot chocolate. Ordered drinks and waited an extremely long time to get Hot chocolate as ordered. Waitress was very quick to come to our table A few positives before I get into the gritty: That excitement quickly ended shortly after arrival. I was so excited to be in Atlanta and able to visit this famous spot.
